Is It The Most Wonderful Time of the Year?

by DeDe Jones

This time of the year is my absolute favorite. For others – not so much. This season brings a plethora of emotions and it can be so overwhelming.

My emotions go from one extreme to the other. I was raised with amazing traditions and great memories that I hold so close to my heart. At the same time, I miss those who were such an important part of those traditions and memories. My Dad, who was my hero and would buy me that one amazing gift because he loved me so much. My Uncle Buddy who would sit around the piano while my family would sing for hours celebrating the birth of our Savior. Those memories I will treasure for the rest of my life. The gift is in the having those memories and traditions to pass along to my family. And in getting to start new traditions and make new memories that will be with me the rest of my life.

What I have to constantly remind myself at this time of the year though, is that it’s not about me. It’s not my birthday. It’s Jesus’ birthday. This is the time we set aside to stop and recognize the birth of a Savior that would change life forever and ever. All of the memories and traditions we have created center around that gift.

This year, whether you celebrate your memories or struggle with them, remember the gift of Real Hope God gave you in the birth of a child. It’s waiting to be unwrapped by you. Don’t let this time pass without creating new, special memories in the name of Christ. I pray this time of the year brings love, joy and happiness in a big and special way!

“The angel said, ‘Don’t be afraid! Look! I bring good news to you—wonderful, joyous news for all people. Your savior is born today in David’s city. He is Christ the Lord…’ Luke 2:10-11
